Here are some masks and images I created by applying what
I learned in this lesson.
Here are two images - one of a green landscape and the
other of the Philadelphia skyline, both cropped to the same size. |

I then created a third image, same size as the two above. I added some
vector text and a tube called "ivy". On the tube layer, I changed it to
grey scale, increased color back to 24 bit and added an adjustment layer
to make the greys a bit darker. I then merged all.

I copied the skyline picture as a new layer on top of the landscape. On
this skyline, I applied "mask, new from image" and used my newly created
image, with source luminescence to come up with this.

Finally, I created another new mask by using another picture tube of a
jewel, below left. I rotated it, changed it to grayscale and
increased the color to 24 bits. Then, using manual color correction, I
selected the lightest part and set a target of pure black. I then saved
the resulting image as a mask, inverted, below right. |
