I learned a lot this week - as I have done since this
class started. I never even thought about modifying photos by using
PSP adjustments selectively on sections of the photo. I know I'll
make great use of this feature for many photos in the future. Here
are just two of the pics I've fooled around with this week. |
|
Here's my puppy (you're going to get tired of seeing him) when he was a
manageable little ball of fur...

This is a nice picture, but Darby's true colors are showing, and the
background is washed out. When I tried modifying this one last week
using the adjustment layers, I either go too much red in Darby and the
carpet, or washed out my cart. So, it's selections to the rescue! |
 First, I added a
saturation of 4 to the entire picture, then I used the smart edge
selection tool and selected the entire cart, then inverted. On the
inverted image, I was able to add contrast and remove some of the red in
the photo using adjustment layers. This left the cart it's bright
color, yet gave me a fuller looking picture all around. |

Next photo. This was taken on an overcast day - a white plane, in
the white snow, and my hubby wearing dark clothes (Ron, note he's not in
his gardening attire!). Pretty dull looking....

I went for effect on this picture. I wanted a nice blue sky and I
wanted to plane to stand out. I used the rectangular selection on
the sky, feathered at 4, then used the CTRL key and frehand to remove the
plane's tail. I inverted the sky selection, then added contrast,
reduced brightness, added saturation, and removed a lot of blue through
the adjustment layers. I then inverted the selection back, promoted it to
a layer, duplicated it and changed the blend mode to overlay.
