Oh yea, I love these layer styles! What a powerful tool.
I thought scripts in PSP were great things. Layer styles in Photoshop
are easier to do and much more flexible. I can see I'll be using this
feature a lot. |

Here's a text style I created. The one on the left in the original. I
then applied it to the text on the right, but scaled it down by 50%.

Here are two new styles I created and
applied to text. The third image is the second style with a hue overlay
to change the color. You don't get the full effect of these new styles
at this smaller size. On the one on the left, I used a satin overlay
with an increased size. On the other two, there is a pattern overlay.

The next set of tasks worked with styles
applied to images. Here's the image I decided to work with. It's a
picture of some coral and christmas tree worms I took down in Cozumel
last week:

Here I applied an existing layer style
called "black and white photo". Click on the image for a bigger version.

This is the first style I created on my own.
I did this by applying a texture blend called waxpaper. I adjusted some
of the settings with this blend until I got what I liked. I then added
an soft chisel emboss and adjusted the settings on it until I got what I
liked. Click on the image for a larger picture.

This style was created using a gradient
blend. I used a black to white gradient, applied with a blend mode of
hue and set at a radial angle. I fooled around with the scale and
opacity of the gradient until I got the effect I wanted. Click on the

This is another existing style called
puzzle. I had to scale this to 30%. Clicking the image brings up a
larger version.
